With its catchy title and infectious energy, this '80s classic from Hall & Oates immediately caught my attention. Co-produced with Redah, I envisioned a version that highlighted the ukulele and mandolin as the primary instruments. Redah creatively "sang" the bass line, and once we tracked the song, we knew we wanted a female vocalist to bring it to life. Dominique Vellutato was the perfect choice, providing stunning lead vocals along with backing harmonies from Redah and Dominique.

We filmed the video at Will Rogers Beach in Pacific Palisades, capturing the fun and vibrant spirit of the song.

You Make My Dreams (Come True)" (Daryl Hall & John Oates) Cover for TV & Film | Robert Etoll Productions

"You Make My Dreams (Come True)" begins with those enticing grooves from Daryl Hall & John Oates' classic from 1981, but with a female singer reimagining this male cover song, with Dominique on vocals. The synth laden 80s production is now outdated for today's consumers. However, our female interpretations of male songs has all the recognized uplifting joys, encapsulated in a cool, organic arrangement using ukulele and mandolin. This is ideal for today's sync applications requiring authentic joy and vibrant energy.

"You Make My Dreams Come True" 1981

"You Make My Dreams Come True", which is written by Daryl Hall, John Oates, and Sara Allen, was released in 1981 in their album "Voices," which also features themes from "Adult Education." It is a perfect example of Hall & Oates's ability to write anthemic pop-rock songs that are catchy. As it was recorded at what appears to be the zenith of their collaboration, propelled by the synthesizer and tight 1980s production.

It has the exuberance and optimism that facilitates memorization, along with Hall's energetic tenor and the duo's harmonizing voices. It creates an exuberant rapture celebrating love and the transformation it provides.

"You Make My Dreams (Come True)" Meaning?

Daryl Hall and John Oates' upbeat classic truly captures the thrill of discovering someone, who is able to transform your life. Oates reflected that after having the band stumble through an improvised jam session in 1980, they created a song that was really "a groove with a title you can put whatever on" it and "it can mean anything anybody wants it to mean." The lyrics capture the utopian idea that love and relationships can take the ordinary and mundane aspects of existence and elevate them into experience that is pleasurable and fulfilling, even magical.
