"Kiss" (Prince) Cover for TV & Film | Robert Etoll Productions

"Kiss" starts with that instantly recognizable, minimal guitar riffs, from Prince's 1986 milestone album, but as an intimate female vocal cover. Along side piano, with the artistry of a female vocalist, constructing a male cover song, innovation, with Eva Nomikou.  The original was revolutionary in its efforts towards a minimalist funk arrangement, while ours can conjure all the emotional recognition in a lovely ballad version, with live cello and string pads or just pianist. Either way we think it works exceptionally well for cinematic settings, love stories, and contemporary sync applications across the board.

The Story Behind  Prince’s “Kiss”

Prince Rogers Nelson (1958-2016), a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, born in Minneapolis, was one of the most creative innovators in popular music and the art of performance. By combining rock, pop, R&B, funk, and new wave, Prince made a sound that defies categorization, while being simultaneously elegant in its musical presentation and emotional depth, making it a delightful setting to reinterpret.

“Kiss”, was written in 1986 for the album Parade, starting as a minimal demo, featuring a portable drum machine, a few guitar chords, and Prince's signature falsetto vocal. Prince kept the demo's minimalist qualities in its final recording, creating a similar captivating, minimalist groove, that has led to numerous reinterpretations while maintaining the same successful appeal.

Film, Commercial, TV & Digital Content

This emotional cover song works phenomenally in romantic motion picture scenes, romantic story narratives, and any context where a narrative view is looking for intimacy and emotionally evoking connections. Television dramas with relationship space development, romantic narratives, or other character-driven brands, could find this version as substantial emotional connectivity. While still complementing, but not overtaking the image storytelling. The piano provides an excellent vehicle for romantic film deliveries and is especially great for intimate moments that are trying to connect moments of acknowledgement.
