Reimagined Covers

Blue On Black, Kenny Wayne Shepherd — cover male female duet

"Blue On Black" (Kenny Wayne Shepherd) Cover for TV & Film | Robert Etoll Productions

"Blue On Black," begins with those instantly recognizable, blues rock guitar lines, from Kenny Wayne Shepherd's 1997 hit, but reimagined as a powerful duet creation. A collaborative song featuring male and female vocalists with Frankie Rossi and Wendy Drown taking turns on the cover track song. The original had a driving blues rock arrangement that defined the essence of the late '90s guitar music, but our song and mix-gender cover vocals of this, provide the level of emotional recognition, in a different arrangement. It starts off as simple piano and live string quartet and builds to a pulsating, powerful rock groove that is tailor made performance, for in-show series and movie trailers.

About Kenny Wayne Shepherd: The Story Behind "Blue on Black"

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is an American guitarist and singer born in 1977 in Shreveport, Louisiana, who became one of the most recognizable names in the modern blues revival movement in the 1990s. Rising to fame as a teenager, Shepherd's sound combines traditional blues influences with modern rock influences, creating a fit for traditional blues wisdom. His technical guitar skills and emotional drive allowed him to stand out in an era, when many new blues-rock artists were being introduced. He introduced a fresh take to the blues scene that merged, vintage blues authenticity with contemporary rock energy. This left his catalog ready to be covered as male vocals and female vocals to duet, because his musical compositions contained enough emotional weight to cover with a variety of vocal arrangements and types.

"Blue On Black" 1997

Written by Tia Sillers, Mark Selby and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, “Blue On Black” found its form on Shepherd’s 1997 album Trouble Is. The late '90s blues revival was bursting with talent and highlights, and this song combined Shepherd's signature guitar sound with driving rhythm and raw, emotional vocals, and became Shepherd's most recognizable song.
